About the Fiction Brain Library

That is the epiphany my writing partner, Mike and I started with, years and years ago. That kick started development of Fiction Writer Power Tools and three other books for fiction writers.
We offer the material for free. We don’t make a penny from this site.

Here’s the thing. We know good writing when we see it. That part is easy. Getting into the nuts and bolts of it, understanding reader engagement, understanding how stories flow to create an emotional connection with reader — that turned out to be a much bigger rabbit hole than either of us expected.

We’d read the craft books. Plenty of them. We kept looking for somebody to go further than fiction writing 101, to ask the harder questions, to pull the thread all the way through for answers.

That is what Fiction Brain is. The deep discovery and questioning of conventional thinking. An honest look at what is really happening inside a story that makes a reader experience the story the way a writer intended.
